We’ve been conditioned to think that a nation’s unhappiness and political struggles are inevitable, like death and taxes. Yet the one point always missed is that a country is most at peace with itself when run according to the majority consensus. This is how democracy is meant to work, and yet in most ‘democracies’ today, our elected representatives and the party they serve have been the chief cause of our national woes. The reason? Because they are the ones forming policy, not the people.
You may have voted for Labour, the Lib Dems or Conservatives at the last General Election, but most know what a monumental struggle it is even to get the simplest things changed on a local, let alone national level.
